About Us

Our story

Geoff Williams, the founder of The Forest Shop, has dedicated his life to bridging the gap between conservation and economic sustainability. Born in Melbourne, he studied Environmental Horticulture at Burnley Horticultural College and Melbourne University, specializing in the utilisation of native plants. His journey took him to the Permaculture Research Institute in northern NSW, where he deepened his understanding of sustainable landscape management. His global experiences in Papua New Guinea, Taiwan, and China, working on community development and biodiversity projects, further shaped his vision for an environmentally responsible business model.

Upon settling in Coonabarabran, Geoff founded Diversity Native Seeds (DNS), which has since become the leading supplier of native seeds for mining revegetation in eastern Australia, contributing to over 20,000 hectares of high-quality native vegetation restoration. Recognising the need for long-term sustainability, he acquired several rural properties with high conservation value to demonstrate how biodiversity and economic vitality can coexist.

From this foundation, The Forest Shop was born. Our goal is to offer more than just products; we aim to provide a pathway for people everywhere, including urban dwellers, to engage in meaningful conservation efforts through their purchasing choices. By sourcing landscapes managed with ecosystem health as the priority, The Forest Shop turns commerce into a force for environmental restoration and community resilience.
